Having spent his youth in the 80s “living for climbing” andclimbing pure, unadulterated traditional gritstone, granite and limestone routesweek after week, Miles’ dream has always been to own his own climbing wall.Bouldering has become more mainstream over the years and ChalkUp! was anamazing opportunity. Until Chalkup! opened its doors, the nearest climbingwalls were a minimum of an hour’s drive away from the local town of Bridgwater,on the M5 corridor. Miles’ hope is that bouldering will appeal to local peoplewho may never have otherwise tried climbing, as well as become a go-to drop inplace on the way to SouthWest outdoor sea-cliff areas such as Baggy Point inDevon. Bouldering has become, not only a skill, but a unique way to train andbuild strength, which Miles has identified and is committed to providing forlocal climbers who want to maintain their finger strength and mobility duringthe winter, in preparation for outdoor climbing during the Summer. Or, forthose who are hooked on indoor climbing, ChalkUp! is open all year round withcoffee and cake to relax with at the end of a hard (and hopefully fun) session.
Miles’ background in management of the veterinary practicemeans that he is skilled in the day-to-day management of a business along withmanaging staff and dealing with customers. Although he has enjoyed contributingto the development of Evolution Farm Vets, climbing is his passion and he haswaited a long time to develop a business of his own in the area that heloves….he is determined that it will be a success and will contribute to ourlocal community in a positive way.
